Airflex Labs is proud to introduce you to the self titled debut LP from Kab Driver.
Kab Driver aka David Baxter is a Belfast based musician/ producer/sound designer who is also the co-founder of RESET label and club night. Previously he has released under the aliases Filaria and Kinnego Flux (a project involving vocalist Brian Greene), the latter which featured on the debut 12” of Boxcutter’s imprint Kinnego Records, home of amazing new talents such as Beaumont and Space Dimension Controller.
Fusing elements of funk, electronica, jazz and 2-step, this fourteen track debut album is the label’s first LP after a successful series of 12” single releases. Listening to the record, it is likely that you will understand why we decided to break our releases scheme.
After Barry Lynn sent early demos of Kab Driver material to our label manager Pierre - aka Opti - we’ve been falling in love with David’s intricate sound. It is probably the always mutating backdrops, the skittering post-funk beats, or the creativity that lays within any single track, but this record instantly captivated our attention.
This record also features collaborations from Planet Mu’s all-time favourite and Baxter’s long-time collaborator Boxcutter, as well as the talented local soul vocalist Brian Greene.
With groove as a common denominator, Baxter explores funk, house, 2Step, jazz, IDM and everything electronic through the prism of his own interpretations, keeping his creativity flowing.
You will find elements of Burnt Friedman, Jan Jelinek, LFO, Bootsy Collins, Brian Eno, SND, Boards of Canada, Coldcut, Throbbing Gristle and a lot more in his music, but Baxter always ends up making every influence’s legacy his very own.
